Viva la journey

Let me begin by saying, this is NOT my attempt to copy A Merry Rogue http://amerryrogue.blogspot.com/.  My good friend Sean actually beat me to the punch in getting his blog set up and running prior to my officially launching what I had brewing in my head.  While we both work together at the Renaissance Festival and are starting a journey with the same goals in mind we’re approaching it two very different ways.
Recently I’ve noticed that I’ve gotten older, much to my surprise as in my mind I’m still perfectly able to accomplish the same feats that I was in my late teens and early 20’s.  However those feats now come at the price of much more pain/stiffness/general whining as people that know me can attest.  I’ve made new years resolutions in the past and they’ve lasted like most about a whole moon cycle at best until I realized I had slipped into my old habits before I had even really realized it.
Something changed within the past few months.  I don’t know what it was exactly that was the turning point but I remember that I just wanted to feel better and not be the one to set a bad example to my kids about fitness and health.  New years eve I found myself at the Mall of America (MOA) and shopping and generally having a good time.  We ended the day at Barnes and Noble and I remember seeing the book: “The 4-Hour Body” I’d heard of it and picked it up once before and thumbed through it somewhere and never gave it another thought.  For some reason I decided to use my recently acquired ITunes gift card to buy the book on my ITouch, since lugging the book around didn’t seem that appealing.  (Seriously the book could cause a sinkhole if dropped from a few floors I have no doubt.)
I got home that night and after the children had fallen asleep (not an easy task of late) I decided to give the book a crack at reading.  The ideas and concepts shared in the book totally caught my attention mainly because it appealed to my mindset: easy, simple, and repetitive. It may not be the prettiest but it was supposed to gain results.  I had my doubts; I’d never really done any “Diet” before and thought of the idea of sharing and making myself accountable for something in a public forum completely horrifying.  So I put it aside, a few days later I picked it up and resumed and decided to give it a try, using pictures, blogs, the whole world to be able to follow if need be.  Then Sean posted his blog and decided to just keep it between myself and a few friends and family.
So if you’ve made it this far in reading you’re probably wondering what all the nonsense above is really about.  In short, it’s my journey to lose weight.  I took pictures and measurements and all the embarrassing things that I can think of.  At this point I’m not going to post any pictures or give the specific measurements because it’s a touchy subject in that respect.  Basically I’ve always had no issues with being active in some way, shape, or form.  My biggest weakness has always been food.  So I went about the "Slow carb diet" to use it as a tool to teach myself what works for my body.  You’ll be able to see what I’ve cooked and ate each week.  I’m going into the start of my third week at this point and have found myself feeling so much better, overall energy and just feeling healthier.  If you wish to follow this journey keep tuned into this, I’ll do my best to make it interesting and at worst it will be an outlet for me to share this.  Eventually this will begin to incorporate other items into the blog besides the food portion and by eventually I mean probably within the next week if not sooner.  There are only so many ideas a person can use food for fodder in a blog unless you’re a critic.
